The German Research Foundation (DFG) has granted a joint proposal by the GHI Rome and the Bavarian State Library Munich that aims to digitalize the libretto collection of the department for music history at the GHI Rome. It includes rare libretti from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries which document almost without time gaps the early period of public opera performances in Venice (1637-1734). The institute also possesses additional prints of old and modern libretti. The collection of libretti is in high demand among guests of the library due to its high value as a source. In the future it will be available through the online catalogue of the department for music studies at the GHI Rome as well as through the virtual library of the subject of music science. Moreover, the collection in the catalogue will be linked to the digital collection provided by the Bavarian State Library allowing for comfortable access to the full texts of the libretti. The digitalized collection has been available since 2011.
