The German Historical Institute Washington DC (part of the Bonn-based Max Weber Foundation) seeks to fill an Administrative Assistant position for 10 months in full time (or part time) starting April 1, 2019.

The German Historical Institute is a center for advanced studies that promotes transatlantic dialogue and collaboration in history and related fields.

The successful candidate will handle the following tasks:

Administrative Tasks

  • Support to payroll administration of local employees,
  • Book keeping / accounting and administering bank account,
  • Administrative support to internship program of the institute,
  • Organize and maintain supplies for events and general office use,
  • Correspondence to American service providers,
  • General administrative support.


  • Fluency in spoken and written English, knowledge of spoken and written German,
  • Training in administration and/or human resources or several years of experience in the professional field as administrative assistant strongly desired,
  • Good comfort level with technology, demonstrating strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel),
  • Proficiency with ERP software a plus,
  • Good oral and written communication skills,
  • Ability to work independently, and with teams,
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.

The position is offered on a full-time (40 hours/week) basis (part time position possible).
