Living the German Revolution 1918-19: Expectations, Experiences, Responses

18.10. - 20.10.2018, Konferenz, DHI London

From 18 to 20 October 2018, the German Historical Institute London will host an international conference (sponsored by the Thyssen Foundation) on the German Revolution of 1918/19, organised by Christopher Dillon (KCL), Christina von Hodenberg (QMUL), Steven Schouten (Amsterdam) and Kim Wünschmann (LMU). The conference will analyse the expectations, experiences, and responses of Germans to the revolution. By focusing on the practices and agency of ordinary protagonists, the conference’s fresh approach will register the revolution’s popular mobilization and societal penetration, its destruction of inherited patterns of authority, and its contested legacy for the Weimar republican project.
