The site presents more than a thousand examples of original texts compared to their Russian printed and manuscript translations of the 18th century, with a special emphasis on the key socio-political concepts introduced into Russian during this era. The database takes into account both printed and manuscript translations, and allows a diachronic and comparative perspective to trace the formation (or borrowing) as well as the adaptation and further development of almost all modern political terms. Thus, translation is understood as a laboratory of political concepts, ideas and terms whose emergence and development vividly illustrate changes in the language and semantics of Russian political culture.
In addition to this, statistical data and graphs obtained during the work on the project will be presented. The quantitative approach will allow not only to illustrate the trends of Russian book publishing in the 18th century, but also to relate it to the European context.
