März 1624: Ein europäisches Bündnis für den Pfalzgrafen?

Im Reich war es schon seit Wochen ruhig, nichts deutete auf neue kriegerische Verwicklungen hin. Aber die Nachrichten, die aus anderen Ländern zu hören waren, verhießen nichts Gutes – zumindest für alle die, die die Sache des exilierten Pfälzers nun längst ad acta legen wollten. Doch in einer Meßrelation erschien zu Ostern 1624 ein Bericht, der die Kaiserlich-katholische Seite und ihre Sympathisanten beunruhigen mußte1. Alessia Carnevale holds a PhD in Civilizations of Asia and Africa from Sapienza University of Rome. Her doctoral thesis deals with Tunisian counter-culture and the ‘committed song’ of the 1970s-1980s. She previously graduated in Comparative Literatures and Cultures from the University of Naples l’Orientale. Her research explores the relations between culture and politics, issues of collective memories and (counter)narratives, and grassroots/top-down interventions in the cultural field.

Es mochte Krieg im Reich herrschen, aber das Leben ging weiter, natürlich. Und wie immer war vieles zu ordnen, so auch die Besitzverhältnisse beim landsässigen Adel. Die verdeutlicht eine Urkunde vom 14. März 1624, die für den Erbfall in der Familie Ketzgen am Niederrhein eine Lösung bereithielt. Initiator war Eberhard Ketzgen zu Geretzhoven, der für den Fall seines Todes seinen Besitz auf die Kinder verteilte1.
