Asian Infrastructures

Since 2017, the DIJ Tokyo has maintained a research group at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Under the guiding theme of "Borders, Mobility and New Infrastructures", researchers from NUS and DIJ have been working on cross-border infrastructures and new dimensions and spaces of interactions in Japan and Southeast Asia. In 2022, this collaboration between the DIJ and the NUS was relaunched through a research partnership with the Asia Research Institute (ARI). The subject of the DIJ-ARI cooperation is "Asian Infrastructures", following the work of the previous research group. The term is deliberately broad and includes not only health, migration and transport infrastructures, but also digital networks, financial interconnections and knowledge infrastructures. The competing infrastructure initiatives of China and Japan will also be addressed.
