Call for Applications: Senior Fellowship at GHI Pacific Office (m/w/d) (DHI Washington)

Bewerbungsschluss: 01.05.2023

Innovation through Migration

The German Historical Institute Washington (GHI Washington) invites applications for fellowships on „Innovation through Migration” at its Pacific Regional Office in Berkeley. Each year, the fellowship program offers two senior scholars (tenured professors) the opportunity to visit Berkeley for 4 to 12 weeks. There, they contribute to the Pacific Office’s research focus on the histories of migrant knowledge. Senior scholars should be professors or associate professors in North America or in Europe who have published their second book (i.e. Habilitation).

The GHI's Pacific Office aims to foster international and interdisciplinary networks of scholars and to help researchers take advantage of the rich research opportunities on the West Coast. By focusing on research at the intersection of migration studies and the history of knowledge, the GHI's Pacific Office aims to bring historical perspectives to an extremely timely constellation of issues.

The GHI's Pacific Office will take the lead and invite experts to join us in building an international research network whose ambition is to understand the epistemological foundations, challenges, and pitfalls of past and current migrant experiences and migration regimes. Particular attention will be paid to migrants as political, economic, and cultural actors.

Senior Fellows will benefit from an interdisciplinary scholarly community on campus that focuses on questions of migration, ethnicity, diaspora, border regimes, or citizenship, and they will be able to take advantage of the world class research resources in the Bay area. They will help give shape to and raise the profile of the GHI's Pacific Office. They will act as mentors to our junior fellowship recipients and advisors to our staff and contribute to the migrant knowledge network through blog posts or by participating in the Annual Academic and Policy Symposium Innovation through Migration (if applicable). The symposium is scheduled for the fall of 2023.

The GHI provides fellows with a pro-rated lump sum of up to €18,000 (3-Month stay) to cover the costs, such as domestic travel, visa fees, housing, or other possible incidental costs related to your stay in Berkeley. In addition, fellowship recipients will receive a lump sum for their round-trip airfare to the Berkeley.

If you have questions concerning the fellowship, please contact Sören Urbansky.
